Abbreviation: DH TAS
Size needed: base -1
Difficulty: Intermediate
Ideal for: toddlers, heavy babies
Not good for: short babies who want to see over your shoulder, determined leg-straighteners (you could modify it to make the first or second pass a cross pass if needed)
Pass sequence: Start with just a bit of tail over one shoulder. First make a rebozo pass, spread chest pass, another rebozo pass, brought down as a ruck strap and then a horizontal pass. Tied at shoulder.
One reason to use this carry is if you have a wrap braided up, you can work with the braided end only partially unbraided, which can be handy to keep a wrap from touching a muddy, wet, or otherwise unpleasant ground.
1. Start with one very short tail over your shoulder. Form a rebozo pass and pin that top rail
2. Pull all the excess wrap down, so that it is smooth across baby’s back.
3. Bring it up between you to form a nice deep seat
4. And gather the tails up…
5. …pulling out slack
6. Pin the short tail with your chin/teeth…
7. Bring the long tail across your chest, maintaining even tension
8. and around under your arm to your back
9. Pass the top rail to your other hand
10. If you have the pass really low…
11. …use your elbow to help you hoist the wrap higher up baby’s back
12. And grab the side by the chest pass at the top rail to pop it up over baby.
13. Until it is in the right place
14. Bring down excess wrap just like you did making the first seat
15. Gather the working tail and pick up the tail over your shoulder
16. Do an L pull
17. Sneak the wrap over your shoulder, carefully, so you don’t pop the seat.
18. Make sure you have even tension on both tails
19. Pin the short tail again.
20. Pass the working tail back across baby
21. Using my left hand to keep the rail at the proper height, I’m pulling up and to the right with my right hand
22. Just another way of getting the pass nice and high and tight.
23. Gather the tail and bring it under your arm.
24. Cross the straps at the shoulder
25. And tie a square knot, slip knot, buleria/knotless finish, or candy cane chestbelt
26. Roll up the bottom of the chest pass to a comfortable point
27. Pull the top rail straight up and roll it down to the right place.
28. More rolling. You can also tuck extra slack (often a problem with linen wraps) in at this point
